Chemonics seeks technical experts for the anticipated $10-25 million USAID Indonesia New Municipal Solid Waste Management and Partnership (Selaras). This Activity seeks to help Indonesia achieve its development goal of reducing marine plastic pollution by improving urban waste management through public institution strengthening and private sector partnerships. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Technical experts in the following position areas for this Activity with the necessary qualifications:

  • Municipal solid waste management
  • Municipal solid waste recycling
  • Informal sector waste management and recycling
  • Source reduction and packaging
  • Waste management capacity building
  • Government procurement and public-private partnerships
  • Private sector engagement
  • Business planning and improvement
  • National and sub-national policy/enabling environment
  • Gender and inclusion
  • Strategic communications and social and behavior change
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and learning


  • Degree in engineering, waste management, recycling, water and natural resource management, public policy, public administration, economics, communications, business or related field required. Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in relevant disciplines listed
  • Strong understanding of Indonesia’s solid waste systems, investment structures, and performance- and incentive-based waste management
  • Experience working with vulnerable urban populations preferred​
  • Experience with USAID or other donor-funded programs preferred
  • Supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to form strong working relationships, mentor, and motivate staff
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, orally and in writing
  • Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia
