Chemonics seeks a communication and advocacy consultant for the ongoing FCDO Syria Education Programme (Manahel). The project aims to provides access to safe, inclusive, and quality learning opportunities to children in Syria, while strengthening education actors to effectively manage education. This position will be a short-term assignment (15th September and 15th December, with potential extension till 15th January) based in Gaziantep, Turkey, with an option for fully remote work for individuals based outside of Turkey. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Update Manahel’s communication strategy, guidelines and plan and socialize with relevant staff and local partners
  • Update Manahel’s education advocacy strategy and design the relevant activities
  • Draft technical, social media, video scripts and story content in both Arabic and English
  • Work closely with the program teams on the design and production of the communication plan materials for maximum impact
  • When necessary, conducts interviews with program stakeholders or beneficiaries to collect specific information, stories, or feedback on Manahel impact and results
  • Support MERL team in development of internal and external reports and materials in coordination with programme teams
  • Support Programme and MERL team to identify and document stories of change and case studies, success stories that communicate the impact of Manahel’s work and for use in media work and for quality reporting purposes
  • Train key senior staff on communications, media, and support Manahel’s local partners when needed
  • Draft media briefings, talking points, Q&As, press releases and media statements based on communication priorities identified
  • Lead the implementation Manahel’s research dissemination plan which includes:
    • Planning for events with different stakeholders to share the learning from Manahel’s work
    • Coordinate the application process to designated scientific platform to share Manahel’s research and learning - draft concept notes and proposals
  • Assist Manahel MERL director with conducting periodic learning and reflection sessions

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role or in advocacy and communication position
  • Exceptional and demonstrable written communications skill in all mediums with a strong understanding of how to adapt communications to different audiences
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Strong understanding about the context, conflict and security situation in Syria, previous experience in Syria strongly preferred
  • Experience working with different levels of stakeholders; local actors, local and international NGOs
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines, responsive to external requests and strong team player
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in Arabic, with strong speaking and writing skills in English
