Position: Part-Time Remote Research Assistant

Location: Remote – anywhere in the world (contract will be governed by US law)

Period of performance: June 15-August 31, 2021 (approximately)


From June – August 2021, ABA ROLI will undertake a research project in Northern Africa. ABA ROLI will engage researchers to collect qualitative and quantitative information regarding rights-related issues in the region. Surveys, focus-group discussions (FGDs), and key informant interviews (KIIs) will take place in several different areas.


ABA ROLI seeks a part-time remote research assistant who will review, analyze, and support coding of surveys, KII and FGD results. The research assistant will also undertake research on human rights law-related topics and prepare research memos and papers for publication/dissemination. This position requires background and expertise in data analysis and research methodologies, as well as strong writing skills.


Under the direction from DC-based program staff, consultant will:

  • Support coding of data from field research including key informant interviews and focus group discussions;

  • Support analysis, interpretation, and synthesis of data from field research;

  • Summarize interviews;

  • Support research on legal topics;

  • Support drafting and editing as requested;

  • Support program coordination as requested; and

  • Provide other supported as requested


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant field (current Law or Masters students also encouraged to apply).

  • At least two years of relevant work experience in a similar role.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required; a knowledge of statistical applications and techniques is preferred.

  • Sound organizational and data management skills, and ability to handle several responsibilities and work under tight time constraints.

  • Ability to work without direct supervision, paying close attention to detail and bearing independent responsibility for accuracy.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Fluency in English is required (knowledge of French and/or Arabic is a plus).
