Internship Opportunity

Department : Department of External Relations

Duty Station : HQ Amman/ Remote based (Gulf Region, Turkey, Malaysia)

Type of Appointment: Full time internship

Duration: six-month internship

Expected Starting Date: 15 May 2021

Terms of Reference

BACKGROUND

UNRWA’s External Relations Department, UNRWA External Relations Department (ERD) is currently seeking young, enthusiastic, engaged and motivated full-time interns in Turkey, Malaysia and Gulf region. inter-agency, non-governmental and donor liaison tasks, as well as public information work, and provide other support as needed. Internship with UNRWA provide a valuable opportunity to familiarise yourself with substantive humanitarian and development policy issues and the UN system.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducting research on humanitarian policies within respected regions
  • Assisting in drafting and preparing documents on fundraising trends
  • Drafting presentation materials and background information for use at relevant events and conferences
  • Assisting in organizing and convening meetings/seminars/workshops, including contributing to background papers helping with preparations
  • Assisting with translation tasks
  • Compiling statistics
  • Local media analysis
  • Assist in other support activities as instructed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: A university degree from an accredited educational institution in social sciences or business administration, or relevant field.

Work Experience: Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, although prior experience in youth-related initiatives or programmes will be an advantage.

Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written English

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS **

· Proficiency in one of the following languages: Arabic, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, or Turkish

· Organizational skills

Applicants should be able to travel in the Agency's area of operations in the Middle East.

At the stage of acceptance of an internship placement, interns must prove to the satisfaction of UNRWA that they have adequate medical and accident insurance coverage prior to commencing the placement.

Intern placements shall not constitute employment by UNRWA. Interns are considered to be complementary personnel with non-staff status. The purpose of the internship program is not to lead to further employment with UNRWA but to complement an intern's studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship. Interns are eligible to apply as external candidates for UNRWA staff vacancies in accordance with normal selection procedures.
