LHR is a non-religious, non-political, non-profit humanitarian organization with the mission of providing immediate crisis response, as well as long term relief, for the most vulnerable groups in a dignified, respectful and empowering manner.

In response to the growing number of asylum seekers and recognised refugees living in precarious living conditions in Athens, many of them homeless, the focus of LHR’s emergency response programme is direct outreach to at-risk populations in Athens.

Position Summary

As one of four members of LHR’s streetwork team, the Intercultural Mediator will be involved directly in outreach, engaging in conversations with beneficiaries, thus determining their needs and the extent to which LHR can address them. During the office/ home working, the ICM will have an active role in case management, contacting beneficiaries to follow-up in their cases and updating data collection from the outreach. He/She will be available during the home working hours and in contact with the rest of the team.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in daily Streetwork activities, engaging directly with beneficiaries and provide translation when necessary

  • Provide crucial information to beneficiaries, such as where to get legal or medical support and ensure that they access information in a clear and concise way

  • Determine beneficiaries’ NFI needs and help providing those items

  • Share protection concerns with the Emergency Response Coordinator

  • Support with the translation of the information leaflets

  • Support the Emergency Response Coordinator in managing stocks of NFIs and other items

  • Support the Emergency Response Coordinator in project-related research

  • Work independently from the office or from home to update data collection and reporting documents

  • Case management with the support of Officer and Coordinator

  • Represent LHR positively and professionally through all interactions with internal and external stakeholders



  • Minimum age 25 years

  • Experience working with refugees and/or asylum seekers for at least six months in similar position

  • Fluency in English or Greek (both would be an advantage)

  • Fluency (oral, and written) in Arabic

  • Proven ability conduct professionally in a high pressure environment

  • Strong communication skills

  • Experience in case management

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Valid work visa for the Schengen area

  • Willingness to work on an irregular schedule

  • Ability to work independently


  • Working knowledge of French is a distinct advantage

  • First aid qualification

  • Experience in streetwork and/or working with vulnerable populations

  • Candidates who are already in Greece are preferred

  • Valid driving license
