About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the Laos Programme:

Laos has the unenviable title of being the most bombed country in the world per capita. For nearly a decade, Laos was subjected to heavy US bombing as part of the wider war in Indochina. US bombing records show that at least two million metric tonnes of ordnance was dropped between 1964 and 1973.

Working across Xieng Khouang and Khammouane provinces since 1994, MAG has directly helped more than 1,070,000 people to live safer lives, free from danger and fear. Another 2.6 million men, women and children have benefitted indirectly. Our teams have cleared more than 88,000,000 square metres of land in Laos, removing and destroying more than 295,000 items of UXO, including more than 163,000 cluster sub munitions. In addition, MAG has given more than 3,400 risk education sessions to around 128,000 people, helping them to stay safe until land is cleared.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to use your skills in finance, logistics, project and people management to lead a team of primarily national staff across key support functions. Reporting to the Country Director, you will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight in finance, logistics and procurement, vehicle fleet, IT and other support functions day to day, as well as on a longer-term project basis. You will be key in ensuring that all programme support services systems are robust and are working to enhance efficiency and minimise risk, with responsibility for developing and mentoring experienced national staff.

The role will also be responsible for providing strategic and operational financial leadership to the MAG programme, including control of expenditure, budgeting, cash flow management, financial reporting and identification of financial liabilities whilst building the capacity of national staff in the finance function. This is an opportunity to use your experience in successfully designing, implementing, managing and monitoring support systems and processes in an interesting and diverse programme.

As a key strategic and senior manager in the programme, you will be a member of the Senior Management Team. The post holder will also act as the Senior Manager in Country as and when required; a fantastic opportunity to implement and further develop your strong leadership and management skills.

About you:

You will need relevant overseas experience preferably in international aid and development with a humanitarian agency in a developing country. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with a strong background in finance. Given the scale and size of our programme in Laos, you will need to be a dynamic, motivated, flexible self-starter, able to hit the ground running. You’ll have previous overseas experience managing a wide range of support services functions and systems and supporting large scale programmes. You will have a flexible and proactive approach to work, be able to prioritise a heavy workload, and enjoy working with a multi-cultural team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Head of Support Services to take the next step in their career and grow their skills in a senior, varied and autonomous role.
