Internship Opportunity

Department : Department of External Relations

Duty Station : HQ Amman/ Remote Based

Type of Appointment: Full time internship

Duration: 5-9 months internship

Expected Starting Date: April 2021

Terms of Reference

BACKGROUND

If you are passionate about making a lasting difference for Palestine refugees, an internship with UNRWA will give you the opportunity to work on promoting the rights and well-being of Palestine refugees. You would work within UNRWA’s external department, supporting the MENA partnerships team to Support Donor Relations efforts, develop partnerships with partners in the MENA region, providing support to the work team, build relationships with individual supporters, and improve UNRWA’s brand.
The MENA partnerships team Manages files and all relationships with partners and donors from governments, the private sector and individuals in the MENA region, and develops Islamic financing strategies, external relations and fundraising for the agency in the MENA. The MENA partnerships intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in these strategies and methods and tools used in them. In addition, the intern will gain experience in the development of awareness and fundraising campaigns and will have the opportunity to create published communications materials for a UN Agency.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translation (English to Arabic and vice versa);
  • Personal communication and follow up with partners and donors;
  • Generate reports on MENA work including Zakat programme;
  • Support the research required from the team and preparing reports thereon;
  • Preparing reports for high-level individual donors;
  • Updating and verifying donor information in database;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: A university degree from an accredited institution in Public administration, international relations, communication, international development or related field.

Work Experience: Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, although prior experience in advocacy initiatives or programmes will be an advantage.

Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic, including the ability to create content in modern standard Arabic. Working command of spoken and written English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

· University specialization in a field related to communications, social sciences, international development, administration, or the humanitarian sector is desirable;

· Experience in a professional office environment is an asset;

· Experience in Translation and communication is an asset.

· Proofreading skills, marketing, and customer services experience is desirable.

COMPETENCIES

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Writing, editing, and proofreading experience in Arabic.

· Experience or skills in public relations.

· An ability to work within a team under pressure.

At the stage of acceptance of an internship placement, interns must prove to the satisfaction of UNRWA that they have adequate medical and accident insurance coverage prior to commencing the placement.

Intern placements shall not constitute employment by UNRWA. Interns are considered to be complementary personnel with non-staff status. The purpose of the internship program is not to lead to further employment with UNRWA but to complement an intern's studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship. Interns are eligible to apply as external candidates for UNRWA staff vacancies in accordance with normal selection procedures.
