Founded by the Buddhist monk Matthieu Ricard in 2000, Karuna-Shechen implements projects for disadvantaged populations of India, Nepal and Tibet in the sectors of Education (schools, literacy, training), Health (hospitals and mobile clinics, hygiene and sanitation), Environment (solar panels, biological gardens) and Community Development (women empowerment, preservation of local culture). Every year, more than 380,000 people benefit from our help.
A team of 160 employees and about 50 volunteers support the association on a daily basis, most of the employees and volunteers are on the ground in Kathmandu (Nepal) and Bihar/Jharkhand (India), and the rest are located in France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Hong Kong. The HQ is based in Paris. Karuna-Shechen collects more than $3 million in donations worldwide every year. In 2020, the organisation would like to develop programs in France for the underprivileged. Karuna-Shechen seeks to hire one consultant (or if relevant two) with internationaly recognized high skills and competences in the fields of finances, accounting, rules and regulations to undertake a thorough review of it’s existing systems and to propose actionable options to further improve them.
The consultant is hired to perform the assigned duties under the direct supervision of the International Programs Coordinator.
Task 1: work closely with the Country India, Country Director Nepal, International Admin & Finance Manager France as well any other relevant party to conduct a thorough review of past financial and accounting transactions and submit an analytical report on it. This proceses must include as many years as possibly atteinbale over the period of past 20 years.
Task 2: work closely with the Country India, Country Director Nepal, International Admin & Finance Manager France as well any other relevant party to review the existing financial and accounting tools and systems of the organization and submit options for further improvement.
Task 3: work closely with the Country India, Country Director Nepal, International Admin & Finance Manager France as well any other relevant party to establish a monthly or quarterly financial analytical report. The periodicity, scale and scope of the report must be discussed and agreed upon.
Task 3: after approval of any suggest tool, the consultant(s) must train the relevant parties on how to best utlize the new tool(s).
Profile and required skills:
- Mandatory to write and speak in English and Hindi (Nepalee is a plus)
- Indian or Nepalee national and/or resident permit holder
- PhDP, Master’s or Certified Charter Accountant degree in the fields of finance and accounting.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the fields mentioned in the earlier sections.
- Proven skills and past experience in creating financial and accounting systems and tools.
- Proven track record and capacity of being able to work in multicultural environements.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail, organisational skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, research skills, analytical skills, computer skills
- Understanding of data privacy standards,
- Ability to speak and communicate in nepalee is an asset

How to apply:
CONTRACT : at least 6 months fixed term contract.
COMPENSATION : To be determined according to the profile.
LOCALISATION AND WORKING PERIOD : India (Jharkhand and Bihar) and Nepal (Kathmandu). This job can be either part-time or full-time depending on the applicant’s availability.
