Deployable Finance Business Partner

NGO Jobs / UN Jobs Vacancy

Organization: Plan International
Closing date: 18 Apr 2021

Since adopting our global strategy, 100 Million Reasons, our global work to advance children’s rights and equality for girls has had unprecedented impact. We have been transforming our operations at the Global Hub to be the best possible partner for the 8,000+ staff who work in our country offices, and working to become a more agile, efficient and accountable organization.

We have improved our mechanisms for collaboration, transparency and data-gathering and disaggregation. The transformation has increased the number of decisions to be taken close to the point of impact and distributed power more widely throughout the organisation. We have made significant progress towards greater localisation and developing industry-leading equality, diversity and inclusion best practices.

To bring about lasting change, we have to live our values. We are committed not simply to telling the world we are the go to organisation on girls’ rights, but to embedding justice and equality in all that we do. Will you join us?

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

The Opportunity

It is an exciting time for the Finance team at Plan International. We are embarking on significant departmental transformation to ensure strong financial capability and to maximise the impact of our financial resources, particularly important in challenging economic times, for the ultimate benefit of children, especially girls. As we embark on this ambitious and exciting journey, we are recruiting for a number of new finance roles, who will help to prepare, position and strengthen the organisation to achieve long lasting change in children’s lives. We are particularly keen to build our strategic and analytical insight and create stronger business partnering approach, so would love to hear from candidates with exceptional skills and experience in these areas on a global scale.

As the Roving Finance Capability Business Partner, you will partner with colleagues in country and regional offices and/or GH Departments to provide broad and varied financial skills and capability in support of Plan’s work in countries where additional supporting capacity building is required.

In this role, you will be deployed, sometimes at short notice, to support Regional or Country Offices. You will assist with additional financial skills as required to provide the skills needed in the short term and build long term sustainable financial capability in country. This could be in response to a local change in circumstances, response to audit recommendations or other performance challenges in the country. As a finance professional you will provide technical skills and knowledge involved in all aspects of finance and/or provide specific financial skills to supplement and develop the local finance department.

The Individual

We are looking to recruit an individual who has extensive experience of finance in one or more of the fields: accounting, reporting, grants finance, financial planning and analysis. This experience will need to have been at an International NGO at both local or Country Office level. With exceptional stakeholder management skills, including political credibility to work across all levels of the organisation, including senior leadership. You should be resilient, thrive in dynamic and fluid environments, as well as adaptable and proactive.

To be successful in this role, you need to be able to communicate clearly and effectively and have well-developed skills in staff management, supervision and capacity building. The ability to remain solution-focussed and able to prioritise tasks, deliver on time and cope with ambiguity.
