Right To Play has been active in the education and sports for development sectors in Jordan since 2006, training teachers in UNRWA and Ministry of Education schools as well as coaches in local communities to provide engaging interactive sessions that utilize games and sports for development methodology. Vulnerable Jordanian, Palestinian, and Syrian children who take part in Right To Play play days and tournaments are more engaged in school and have vastly improved life skills. In turn, the youth with whom Right To Play works achieve higher grades, experience greater levels of cooperation and cohesion, and are empowered to overcome trauma, adversity, and cultural stigmas to fulfil their dreams.

Job Description

In partnership with the Olympic Refuge Foundation, the donor for its Advancing Cohesion in Communities through Engagement in Structured Sports (ACCESS) project, Right To Play is developing a series of 19 videos documenting the implementation of the ‘Sport for Protection: Programming with People in Forced Displacement Settings’ toolkit during the ACCESS project. A collaborative effort between the UNHCR, the International Olympic Committee, and Terre Des Hommes, the toolkit represents the next step in the ongoing effort to understand the role that sport can play in the protection and wellbeing of refugee and internally displaced young people. It builds on more than 20 years of work between the UNHCR and the International Olympic Committee to bring sport to some of the world’s most disadvantaged young people, and will be used both by the ORF and a broad cross-section of organizations and stakeholders to better understand and implement Sport for Protection programming. Right To Play is thus looking to hire a consultant Content Writer for ten months’ duration, who will be responsible for leading the design of its Sport for Protection toolkit videos.

Key Responsibilities

The consultant Content Writer will:

  1. Design, plan, and lead the creation of specific (primarily video) content to document the implementation of the Sport for Protection toolkit as directed by Right To Play.

  2. Collaborate with the Project Officer, MEL Officer, and Communications Officer to agree upon the project timeline and deliverables.

  3. Collaborate with the Project Officer, MEL Officer, Communications Officer, and members of the production team in pre-production planning, establishing a clear understanding of purpose, any relevant storylines, structure, and creative vision.

  4. Evaluate existing production plans and content, rewrite content where necessary, and write scripts for each video keeping required learning objectives in mind.

  5. Revise content in response to feedback from the Project Officer, MEL Officer, and Communications Officer.

  6. Coordinate with production staff, the Project Officer, and MEL Officer during production to ensure that content is created according to plans approved by Right To Play.

  7. Engage in the post-production and editing process in collaboration with the Video Editor and Graphic Designer.

  8. Work according to the timeline agreed with Right To Play.

  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and skills

· An experience in the humanities, social sciences, communications, sports management, journalism, or other related discipline.

· Two to three years’ professional experience in communications, writing, journalism, media, TV/film, or public relations; candidates with professional experience in communications within a non-governmental organization will have an advantage.

· Demonstrable professional experience writing in English in varied styles.

· Exceptional English language skills (must be fluent); strong command of Arabic is desirable.

· In-depth understanding of communications strategy and media production.

· Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.

· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

· Excellent planning and organizing skills.

· Ability to work in a diverse multi-cultural team.

· Ability to meet tight deadlines, work well under pressure, and deliver products to specified technical requirements.

· Previous experience working in a development or humanitarian environment is desirable.
