CONSULTANT for VIDEO CASE STUDIES PRODUCTION

NGO Jobs / UN Jobs Vacancy

Country: Cambodia
Organization: Aide et Action
Closing date: 26 Feb 2021

1. Background

Aide et Action (AEA) is an international solidarity organization for development which aims at ensuring access to quality education for the most vulnerable and marginalised populations, especially children, for nearly 40 years. Aide et Action currently operates in 19 countries across Africa, Asia and Europe and reaches more than 1.2 million beneficiaries every year. AEA started working in Southeast Asia in 2002, first in Cambodia, and later extended to Vietnam, Laos and China through both partnerships and direct implementation with local stakeholders (NGOs, governments, and communities). AEA believes in the universal right to a quality education, and thus, bases its interventions around this ethos. AEA focuses its approach on three main programme priorities:

Early Childhood Care Education

• Access and Quality of Education for Primary and Secondary Levels

• Lifelong Learning and Vocational Training

The region works with governments, communities and teachers to deliver quality education through a variety of capacity building and advocacy activities. AEA Southeast Asia's first priority goal for 2019-2023 is to accelerate impact for children and youth at school and home, and invest in innovation and evaluation to measure its impact for children.

2. Project summary

The project “Promoting Quality and Inclusive Early Childhood Care, Education (ECCE) and Parenting in Cambodia and Vietnam” aims to ensure that children aged three to eight years in the target areas of Vietnam and Cambodia maximise their socio-emotional development and successfully transition through the first years of primary school. A first phase of the project was successfully implemented in Lai Chau province in Vietnam, and Kep and Kandal provinces in Cambodia, in 2019. The project has targeted key stakeholders from the local to the regional level – including teachers and school directors, caregivers, community members, local authorities and governments officials – through a series of actions from capacity-building interventions to advocacy and regional collaboration.

A second phase of the project is currently being implemented to bring the best practices and achievements from Phase I further. Unfortunately, the project has been largely impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. School closures have put vulnerable and marginalised children and families at an even higher risk of exclusion, learning delays and drop out. AEA has been implementing a crisis response and recovery plan to mitigate the dramatic immediate and long-term impacts of the pandemic on the most vulnerable populations. In response to the impacts and delays in the project implementation, the project’s second phase will be extended for a 6-month period, from July to December 2021.

A key outcome of the project is to increase peer education and learning at the local and regional levels. However, as the pandemic has shifted face-to-face regional activities to online events, tangible documentation of project’s best practice in the form of video case studies will be produced to increase peer learning across the region between teachers and caregivers. These stakeholders will share their best practices and tips on responsive parenting and child-centred pedagogy to inspire and encourage innovative capacity-building of their peers from their neighbouring country.

Under the supervision of the Regional and Country Project Managers and guidance of the Regional Communication Manager, the consultants will provide 2 high quality video case studies in each country on the identified project’s best practice in responsive parenting and child-centred teaching and learning methodologies. These videos will engage teachers and caregivers from both Cambodia and Vietnam and highlight their technical know-how on the identified best practice with the aim to inspire and encourage their peers to replicate them in their respective contexts. They will then be displayed to the target peer groups and used during capacity building interventions.
