SR. TECHNICAL ADVISOR - AGRICULTURE AND MARKET SYSTEMS
NGO Jobs / UN Jobs Vacancy
CARE is an international NGO with local staff and community partners in more than 90 countries. We create local solutions to poverty and inequality and we seek dignity for everyone every day and during times of crisis. These solutions have a broad range, from clean water to access to education; from microfinance to ensuring that everyone has nutritious food; from agriculture and climate change to disaster response. CARE puts women and girls at the center of everything we do because they have proven to be the best hope for creating lasting change in the world. Our staff live where they work, which makes us effective at understanding the challenges they face. We’ve been doing this for over 70 years, since World War II. It started with the world’s first CARE Package® of food for the post-war hungry in Europe. Our work today is as important as ever, we believe that poverty and inequality are historic injustices that we can end within a generation, for good. If you share our core beliefs: poverty is an injustice; poverty is solvable; and together, we have the power to end it, join us, and fight with CARE.
The Agriculture and Market Systems Team ( A&M) spearheads the FWS global efforts to improve womens livelihoods through addressing access to productive assets and resources, increasing access to inclusive markets and reducing food loss and waste. The A&M seeks to achieve this by developing and supporting interventions that increase agricultural productivity and effective linkages to markets. Agriculture and Markets are seen as credible pathways to increase womens income and livelihoods. In most Countries where CARE works, farmers particularly women face significant challenges to increasing their productivity and engaging effectively with market. They lack access to productive assets and resources, including finance, agricultural inputs and land. Women and other small scale producers also face significant challenges engaging with market given their limited experience and knowledge of the market systems.
Reporting to the Director Agriculture and Markets, the Senior Technical Adviser Agriculture & Market Systems will be a key member of the Agriculture and Market Systems Team and will play a key role in supporting the design and development of high level interventions in CARES FWS programs.
A significant portion of the time will be spent in fostering and building capacity of Country teams to engage with and increase farmer market linkages, linkages to private sector companies for finance and agricultural inputs and also increasing the knowledge and skills of our programs in market Systems Development. The Senior Technical Adviser will support FWS programs as aligned and guided by the CARE 2030 program strategy.
