About the role
Crown Agents is seeking to appoint a Junior Communication Consultant to work on Humanitarian Project in Myanmar. Myanmar is undergoing profound transformation after more than fifty years of military rule and internal conflict. The level of humanitarian need in Myanmar will likely remain high and the drivers of crisis will continue to be complex and multi-faceted. Many populations in need continue to be challenging for humanitarian actors to reach, with some groups receiving no humanitarian aid. Vulnerability to both periodic and rapid onset natural disaster is high.
The HARP Facility is the largest component of the FCDO’s Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience Programme (HARP) which aims to positively influence the way that humanitarian assistance is provided within Myanmar.
The new Knowledge, Impact and Learning (KIL) Team aims to build the evidence base to demonstrate the impact and value of HARP-F and to strengthen HARP-F role as a key source of information, and a knowledge broker on humanitarian context and programming in a protracted crisis.**
Scope of Activities and Tasks
The KIL Team is in the process of producing a range of knowledge products and organising learning events. The Team is seeking communication support to prepare online leaning events, increase outreach and keep the web content current.
The junior communication consultant shall provide overall communication support to the KIL Team, including with the following:
Output 1: Online learning events
Put flyer for each event in layout format; this includes selecting photos for each and ensuring proper captioning and crediting
Prepare Mailchimp version of the flyer to send out to the HARP-F mailing list
Organize pre-recordings when needed and edit them
Output 2: Outreach
- Create and maintain the KIL mailing list (in MailChimp)
- Social media:
- Develop social media toolkits as needed for major events, launches, learning events to share with partners, as well as FCDO
- Facebook and Twitter: Prepare sample messages and tiles for each event/product
- YouTube (for live streaming of learning events): Edit YouTube live videos, Create streams and playlists
- Put each sitrep in layout format
- Post and link to all related documents on Google drive
Output 3: Website
- Draft web posts based on reports, stories and announcements, as needed
Duration and Inputs
The junior communication consultant will work remotely with the Knowledge, Impact and Legacy Team. No travel is anticipated as part of this assignment. The assignment shall commence on or around 27 January 2021 and finish on 30 June 2022.
This is a part-time role with an input of up to 10 days per month. This level of effort may be reviewed over the course of the assignment based on HARP-F requirements and performance.
Management and Reporting Arrangements
Reporting within the project team:
The consultant will report directly to Senior Learning and Impact Expert.
- Three years of experience working in a programme communication function
- Demonstrated experience developing content for social media and using design software
- Fluency in English is required. Myanmar language would be an asset.
