The Global Advocacy Officer is an integral member of the System Organization's Funder and External Engagement Unit, whose purpose is to increase the relevance of and double investment in CGIAR research through effective resource mobilization, communication, advocacy, and partnerships. In the context of CGIAR’s reformulation of its governance and management structures into a more integrated and cohesive One CGIAR, this includes supporting the transformation and positioning CGIAR’s profile and brand to secure sustainable funding for CGIAR research for development agenda to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The position provides critical support in the development, implementation, and monitoring of key advocacy partnership strategies and work plans, as part of CGIAR Resource Mobilization, Communications, and Advocacy strategy. This involves working closely with colleagues in the Funder and External Engagement Unit to ensure alignment with overall plans and prioritization of the initiatives related to the implementation of CGIAR Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Strategy.

This is a highly visible role that works across multiple internal and external stakeholders and requires a competent and experienced mid-level career professional with strong interpersonal and influencing skills, and who is able to navigate relationships with integrity and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop a thorough understanding of the global development landscape as relevant to the Resource Mobilization, Communications and Advocacy strategy (RMCA) in order to elevate One CGIAR´s voice, profile and visibility in global platforms and events through targeted advocacy with high-level partners, governments, and stakeholders.
Contribute to the development and continuous refinement of Advocacy partnership engagement strategies and work plans, and lead on specific aspects as may be appropriate.
In the context of the implementation of the RMCA strategy, provide comprehensive, effective, and efficient support to global and regional partnership engagement initiatives, including providing information on global platforms events and entry points.
Prepare and provide information, data, and insights to periodical partnerships engagement reviews and analysis and make recommendations to the Director, Funder and External Engagement on innovative approaches for enhancing partners engagement and management.
Contribute to monitoring and analysis of progress in relation to the RMCA work plan/ engagement plans.
Coordinate with other functions and participate in the Communities of Practices relevant to Partnerships and Funder Engagement to ensure the exchange of information and good practices.
Organize and maintain partnerships records and databases to support reviews and decision-making.
Foster or contribute to highly collaborative teamwork and communication within designated Unit, the System Management Office, and across the CGIAR System as a whole; proactively participating in knowledge and capacity building initiatives to support the delivery of the Organization’s business and work plans.
Undertake other tasks as appropriate to further advance relevant strategies and initiatives and as assigned by the Director, FEE

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in International Development, International agriculture, Business Administration, Communications, Development Studies or related field (A Masters’ degree is an advantage).
  • At least 5-8 years’ experience in a similar position managing global or donor/partner relations, preferably in a development/ agricultural/ environmental research organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of the global development landscape, including actors, trends, partners, and funder priorities and strategies.
  • Established network in global platforms/governments.
  • Strong project management skills and detail-oriented,
  • Knowledge of and experience in the use of innovative/digital tools/systems. Experience implementing and/or using CRM or other digital systems to manage donor outreach is an added advantage.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, editing, and reporting skills in English. Working knowledge of French, Spanish, Arabic, or another major language that enhances effective collaboration across the CGIAR System Global operations is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software packages (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at a minimum).
