In 2020 since the COVID-19 pandemic began, there has been an increase in the number of Rohingya refugees moving from Bangladesh and Myanmar, towards other countries in Southeast Asia. High population density, a lack of knowledge about COVID-19 and a lack of access to water, sanitation, and hygiene in settlements have exacerbated the risks among Rohingya refugees and migrants.

Under the project funded by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), IOM in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, in coordination with the IOM Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), will produce data analysis reports on the risks and vulnerabilities of Rohingya refugees and migrants. The data analysis will focus on the drivers of migration, methods of migration including the channels to arrange travel and finances, challenges and risks Rohingya refugees face throughout the migration journey, response measures by governments, and living conditions before, during and after migration, experiences with xenophobia, and lack of protection safeguards and access to services.
