USAID/Bangladesh intends to award a five-year Feed the Future Bangladesh Livestock and Nutrition activity, with the goal of sustainably increasing livestock productivity, marketability and consumption of livestock products within the Feed the Future Zone of Influence and Resilience (FTF ZOI and ZOR). The Activity will a) facilitate productivity enhancing technologies and practices such as processing and preservation of fodder for year-round livestock feeding; b) support enhanced dairy processing and preservation into diversified nutritious products, as a means to increase consumption of dairy products, especially in the rural areas; c) promote the consumption of diversified and safe livestock products, especially in the rural areas; d) collaborate with appropriate agencies and institutions to tackle cross cutting barriers to improved production, availability and access to milk and meat. The position will be based in Dhaka or Khulna with frequent travel to project sites.
Land O'Lakes is receiving applications for a Food Science Technical Lead. This individual will lead the development and implementation of the project's milk and meat processing, preservation, product development, and marketing activities; to improve the quality, safety and desirability of milk and meat products. The Food Science Technical Lead will work with private sector actors and relevant government officials to achieve measurable impact in the selected value chains. This position supports the COP in achieving project goals by providing technical leadership across project activities.
Responsible for the technical direction of consumer facing activities including, food safety and quality, new product development, marketing and messaging of milk and meat products to consumers.
Build linkages between the project and market actors, including dairy companies, processors, manufacturers, and distributors of meat and milk.
Engages the private sector to identify and implement innovative strategies to promote diversification of products.
Partners with crosscutting technical team to promote gender and youth entrepreneurship in new product development.
Work closely with other technical sector leads including market development, nutrition and gender.
Support capacity building of project staff in food science best practices and innovations.
Works closely with USAID and other USAID investments in country.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
A Master's degree in food science, nutrition, agriculture, or related field.
A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in applied food science including food processing, product development or food safety and quality control.
Experience in or working with private sector food companies and collaborating with local agencies, departments, and ministries.
Fluency in oral and written English and Bangla.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
10+ years of experience in livestock sector value chain development, including value chain facilitation, dairy processing, marketing, agribusiness, and financial services.
Experience in a management role in a successful for-profit agribusiness.
Experience on a USAID-funded program.
Experience with gender mainstreaming, Social Behavior Change, product development and marketing.
