Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Manager/Site Coordinator, the Research Aide (Laboratory) will provide support to the laboratory manager and other research staff; will assist the lab manager in study specimen collection, testing, processing, storage and shipping of specimens to local and central lab; will help ensure that specimens are properly collected and documented and safeguard their integrity; will provide support to research staff in picking up and returning study products to and from the research pharmacy; will help navigate participants for special procedures at designated testing centers; will also provide support in recruitment and retention activities for an HIV Prevention Trials Network study.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts all research activities in accordance with study protocol, standard operating procedures and other appropriate institutional regulations, procedures and policies, including procedures to safeguard confidentiality of study participants (10%)
  • Assist the lab manager in study specimen collection, testing, processing, storage and shipping of specimens to local and central lab and lab after care. (10%)
  • Help ensure that specimens are properly collected and documented and safeguard their integrity. (10%)
  • Assist in quality control and assurance activities of lab specimens and procedures. (10%)
  • Help organize and file lab study materials and documents. (10%)
  • Assist lab manager in monitoring lab equipment (freezers, refrigerators, CO2 tanks, centrifuge, eye wash etc.), running test controls kits, and monthly inventory of lab supplies. (10%)
  • Provide support to research staff in picking up and returning study products to and from the research pharmacy. (10%)
  • Help navigate participants for special procedures at designated testing centers. (10%)
  • Provide support in recruitment and retention activities for an HIV Prevention Trials Network study. (5%)
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with potential and enrolled participants, visitors, and other employees. (5%)
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and attends study related trainings as requested by the Program Manager/Site Coordinator. (5%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager/Site Coordinator. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one year of research related lab experience
  • Phlebotomy experience
  • Rapid HIV Testing experience
  • Experience working with diverse, medically underserved, high risk populations and communities
  • Demonstrated experience working in teams and independently, and exercising initiative and discretion when handling confidential information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated and successful experience managing multiple priorities under pressure
  • Effectively maintains professional boundaries in research settings
