Cufa has been developing community access to affordable financial services in the Asia Pacific region for nearly 50 years, working cooperatively at grass-roots through to government levels, building capacity in emerging financial cooperative movements to create sustainability, improve lives, and relieve poverty.

Cufa is seeking a Myanmar National for Gender and Social Inclusion Experts for a 4.5 year project to be based in EITHER Ayeyarwady Region, Chin State, Sagaing State (North), Sagaing State (South) OR Thanintharyi Region.

Assigned Tasks:

This role will be responsible for ensuring the integration of gender and development principles during project implementation.

The Gender and Social Inclusion Expert will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Help develop facilitation guides on promoting and ensuring meaningful and active
    participation of women and other vulnerable groups in key activities of the Project activity
    cycle;
  • Develop program strategies to ensure the Project activity cycle is socially inclusive and
    culturally appropriate;
  • Develop assessment tools to determine the skills needed by project teams to be able to
    integrate social inclusion in the Project activity cycle with special emphasis on ethnic
    communities;
  • Provide input in the development of capability building modules on gender;
  • Provide guidance in the establishment of a gender disaggregated M&E database, including
    the systems, tools, and instruments for data capture,
    management, and analysis, and develop an M&E system to track the progress of gender
    equity promotion in the project;
  • Provide technical assistance in the conduct of periodic
    monitoring, tracking, and assessment of progress in the implementation of gender related
    activities in Project;
  • Ensure that implementation of the Project activity cycle is socially inclusive, culturally
    appropriate, and addresses the needs of the ethnic communities;
  • Assist stakeholders to identify and
    document lessons, strategies, and operational models and best practices for integrating
    gender concerns throughout the project cycle and ensure lessons learned are used to
    enhance project implementation; and
  • Prepare periodic work plans and progress reports specific to the functions outlined
    above

  • Selection Criteria:

  • Degree in social science, and post graduate studies in social science, development
    studies, sociology, anthropology, or women’s studies would be an advantage;

  • At least 5 years work experience in community-driven development and gender equity
    promotion;

  • At least 3 years experience on foreign assisted projects;

  • Preferably having experience in integrating gender equity in project design, development and implementation, and M&E mechanisms;

  • Preferably having experience in developing specific context-relevant gender sensitive
    indicators which highlight gender power relations at both the household and
    societal levels;

  • Preferably having experience in designing and implementing capacity building and training
    on gender equity for development facilitators, government personnel, and village
    volunteers;

  • Preferably having experience in the design and implementation of research
    activities around gender issues in village tract and village level development projects;

  • Preferably familiar with the language and/or dialect used by ethnic groups in
    the assigned township and

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office.
