MEAL Assistant

MEAL Assistant ZOA are an international NGO with its Head Quarters in The Netherlands. ZOA offer RELIEF to people who are affected by conflict or natural disasters. ZOA want to contribute to a new perspective of HOPE in which people work together for a promising future in dignity and mutual trust. Together with the affected communities we work on the RECOVERY until they can provide to take care of their livelihoods.  ZOA work in fifteen countries in Africa, Middle East Region and Asia and have approximately 1000 employees worldwide. We are recruiting to fill the position below: MEAL Assistant Location: Monguno, Borno ZOA’s Programme in Nigeria ZOA started operations in Nigeria December 2016, supporting IDPs and returnees of Boko Haram affected states. In the selection of the beneficiaries, we pay careful attention to include the most vulnerable households. Continuously promoting community governance, inclusion, peace and stability in these fragmented and traumatized communities is a challenging but essential part of ZOA's programme. ZOA currently has full team in Borno State, respond to the critical needs in Food Security and livelihood and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Purpose of the position The Deputy Project Manager is responsible for the implementation of the Emergency WaSH project in Monguno LGA, Borno State. He/she will lead, coordinate and supervise the execution and progress of the WaSH project. The position is based in Monguno. Key Tasks and Responsibilities Manage implementation of the emergency WaSH project activities relating to technical specialty, in accordance with ZOA standards, guidelines; and the project proposal and its relevant annexes as well as in line with donor guidelines and specifications; Lead capacity building efforts for the project staff and community volunteers including hygiene promoters and WASHCOM Ensure timely and quality monitoring and reporting of project deliverables in line with approved plans; document successes and challenges; Monitor and validate the work of contractors in regard to drilling/construction of wash facilities (boreholes, latrines, bathing shelters, etc) as well as the supply of quality WASH kits; Monitor and report on progress of activities in accordance with ZOA reporting and monitoring system; Ensure that the quality of the interventions meet national and/or international (technical) standards including those of WASH Sector, Government, CHS/HAP, SPHERE, etc); Map, analyse and manage project stakeholders’ relationship including local/community leaders, beneficiaries, other actors, etc and ensure that they have inputs in project design and implementation; Work with the MEAL team to manage feedback/accountability mechanisms in which beneficiaries and communities are core; Participate in coordination meetings (i.e., WASH sector, Local Coordination Group, Civil Military Coordination meetings) and foster positive working relationship with Government, especially at local level; and with other I/NGOs; Participate in field research, needs assessments, evaluations etc when required Supervise and participate in performance evaluation of project staff especially supervisees; Prepare project activity plans and reports (i.e, weekly plans & reports); Provide support to other project activities in Monguno when required Write evidence-based periodic reports Any other duty that is reasonably consistent with the key tasks of the function. External Contacts: Government on a provincial/district and local level; Community members, community leaders and community-based organizations (including Bulamas and Lawans); International organisations operating in the programme area including UN; Any other stakeholders in project implementation at community level; Internal contacts: Project staff ZOA country office staff Provides leadership to: Casual laborers: 2- 5 persons Competencies Identity: The candidate is expected to support the identity, vision, and mission of ZOA Fully respect all policies of ZOA, especially Gender policy, Child Protection Policy, PSEA Policy, and ZOA’s Code of Conduct. Knowledge / experience: University degree in relevant field (i.e., Civil Engineering, Water Resources, Geology, etc) Relevant experience in WASH based programming and in humanitarian contex; Proven working experience of 2 – 5 years in co-managing projects of which at least 1 year in staff management and coordination; Affinity with relief work and International NGO’s; Ability to write evidence-based, clear and concise reports; Experience in Project cycle management (PCM), budgeting, people’s management and motivation, etc; Excellent in English in reading, writing and speaking; Good spoken knowledge of local languages including Hausa and Kanuri; Good computer skills (Excel, Word); Skills/Attitude: Good verbal and written communication skills; Good networking skills; Good planning and organizational skills; Accuracy; Flexibility and adaptability; Able to work under pressures and meet deadlines; Result-oriented in a team approach; Participative leadership; Ability to work individually as well as in a team; Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting; and in a conflict setting Method of Application Interested and qualified candidates should forward their CV and Cover Letter to: clearly indicate the position applying for in the subject line of application.
