Protection Assistant Based in Oruchinga – Isingiro Uganda About HIJRA: Humanitarian Initiative Just Relief Aid (HIJRA) is an international humanitarian and development organization that positively contributes towards improving the living standards and conditions of those adversely affected by disasters and conflict in the Horn, East & Central Africa by implementing WASH, Health, Education, Livelihoods, Community service & development and Protection programs in the region for a period of more than 20 years. HIJRA with funding from the UNHCR in Uganda is implementing a multi-Sectoral Program for refugees in Kyangwali settlement (Hoima district), Nakivale settlement (Isingiro district) and Oruchinga Settlement (Isingiro district). HIJRA, in a strategy to expand existing program implementing team, is now seeking for a qualified person willing to offer Humanitarian services in the position of Protection Assistant to be based in Oruchinga – Isingiro District. Job Summary: The Protection Assistant will perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with the objectives and activities mentioned below Reporting Relationships: The post holder will be responsible to the Protection Officer. Duties: Assist in the preparation of periodic reports and statistics of asylum seekers, refugees and others persons of concern to HIJRA/UNHCR; Support the design, implementation and evaluation of protection-related programming with implementing and operational partners. Contribute to and facilitate a program of results-based advocacy through a consultative process with partners; Establish constant communication mechanisms with HIJRA Uganda team and implementing partners working in the area of responsibility, through the exchange of information and regular reporting; Actively participate in all aspects of operations planning, monitoring and evaluation of HIJRA’s program; Assist in facilitating a regular flow of information and provide technical support / guidance on monitoring and evaluation to implementing / operational partners where required; Assist in logistics and preparations for workshops including preparation of materials, workshop activities and logistics; Manage and keep up-to-date all the registries and files related to the office’s work; Support HIJRA in the elaboration of reports for donors and other internal reporting requirements Competencies, Qualifications, Skills and Experience: University degree in Law, International Relations, Political Sciences or related field Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience (2 years with University degree). Familiarity with and/ or interest in Refugee Law, Human Rights Law and International Law or related areas. Preference will be given to those familiar with refugee protection and mixed migration flows and/or internal displacement. Demonstrated writing, reporting and presentation skills in English and Spanish. Knowledge of a third language is an asset. Ability to conduct functions on computer programs such as Microsoft Office (including Excel, Power Point, Access). Good understanding of the current political, human rights, migration context in Uganda, particularly in the Congo Influx. Experience from the region will be regarded as an asset · Good knowledge of institutional mandates and policies related to international protection, human rights and migration. · Good knowledge and/or experience of the United Nations system and its mechanisms. Good analytical and research skills, ability to evaluate and integrate information from a variety of sources.
