Abt Associates seeks a Principal Associate with expertise in International Education to join the Social & Economic Policy Division. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated track record pursuing international evaluation projects – research, evaluation, monitoring, implementation, and technical assistance – and strong depth of knowledge about potential funders and partners. Experience with all aspects of international project management, including staffing, budgeting, and oversight of technical quality, is required. Domain and/or regional expertise in priority areas for USAID and other funders (e.g., DFID, DFAT) is strongly preferred.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, design and implementation of international education projects. Manage projects with responsibility for client relations;
  • In collaboration with colleagues in the Social and Economic Policy Division and International Development Division, identify the market for international education opportunities and lead new business development opportunities;
  • Manage client and funder relationships and interactions to ensure effective completion of work that meets stakeholder expectations;
  • Author high-impact reports, white papers, and articles and maintain an industry presence as a subject-matter expert in specific domains of education policy;
  • Identify and recruit senior staff with high-level domain expertise and actively participate in the mentoring of both senior and junior staff; and
  • Take lead responsibility for supervising a substantial number of staff members at varying levels.

Preferred Skills / Prerequisites

  • Deep knowledge of international education and the priorities of USAID and other funders;
  • Experience leading large, complex international projects and managing client relations;
  • Experience leading international education proposals and business development;
  • A well-rounded interpersonal skill set with the capacity to build relationships with clients, funders, and education leaders, and to work effectively in a team environment; and
  • A demonstrated track record of producing high-quality policy analysis products that bridge research, policy, and practice.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MA/MBA (15+) years of experience OR PhD (10 - 15) years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
