United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Senior Designer (Maternity Cover)

NGO/UN Job Vacancy

Organization: Tearfund
Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Closing date: 22 Nov 2017

Do you want to use your skills to bring real change to people in greatest need? An exciting opportunity has emerged for an experienced designer to join the Communications for Development team.

The Communications for Development team is building a global community of 100,000 active members who are learning together, online and offline, to equip themselves with knowledge and skills to face the challenges of poverty and injustice in our world.

The successful applicant will produce high-quality design for publications and online content in line with Tearfund’s visual brand, vision and strategy to meet the needs of Tearfund partners and staff and other selected audiences. He or she will work on creative concepts and content-rich materials to inspire, inform and equip this global community to tackle poverty and injustice.

The Communications for Development team deals with many areas of technical expertise within international development – for example, disaster risk reduction, sexual and gender-based violence, livelihoods and the restorative economy – so knowledge and/or experience of the international development context is required, as is a willingness to embrace a range of communication styles and channels appropriate for reaching different audiences.

The successful applicant will have the ability to use conceptual design to visually represent complex ideas and processes for our various channels (print, digital platforms and, sometimes, video). Experience in typesetting, with an understanding of layout conventions in reports and magazine publication is essential. It is important that the applicant has a clear understanding of mobile and an awareness and interest in emerging communication technologies and platforms in the global context.

The applicant will have the ability to logically think through the user’s experience in order to design infographics, icons and templates that creatively harmonise the needs of a range of teams in Tearfund, and be able to manage freelancers and multi-stakeholder projects. The designer will have an eye for detail, initiative and the ability to schedule and plan ahead, but will also demonstrate flexibility, a relational approach and the ability to think creatively.

Applicants must be committed to Tearfund's Christian beliefs.

This is a part time maternity cover, 21 hours per week. Salary: £33,343 p.a. FTE (£20,006 p.a. part time).
