Wassu Gambia Kafo (WGK) is a scientific based initiative, established in 1999, in The Gambia. WGK is one of the two research and training field stations of the Transnational Observatory for the study, management and prevention of female genital mutilation, hosted by the Wassu-UAB Foundation at the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona.

WGK´s main objective is to foster cooperation for development between The Gambia and Spain, in the field of health, gender and human rights, through applied research and transfer of knowledge, in cascade.

The organization is recruiting a PROJECT COORDINATOR for the implementation of the projects in The Gambia.


  1. Be responsible for the project cycle management: identification, formulation, implementation (technical and financial), reporting and accountability. Ensure that all activities are planned, budgeted, implemented and evaluated as agreed.

  2. Write project proposals for fundraising including logical frameworks and budgets.

  3. Prepare and submit timely and high quality narrative and financial reports.

  4. Collaborate in the implementation of the WASSU strategic plan and vision.

  5. Carry out other duties assigned by the Executive Director.


Candidates for this position should have the following work experience, skills and qualities:

o At least 3 years’ experience in Project Cycle Management within development projects.

o Master's degree in Cooperation and/or Development Studies.

o Strong experience in fundraising, writing proposals and project budgeting.

o Excellent communication (English and Spanish) and writing skills in both languages.

o Ability to manage multiple tasks/responsibilities independently, with initiative and in a fast-paced environment.

o Strong interpersonal skills, networking, alliance building, able to work cordially within a team, self-motivated worker and good team player with leadership.

o Respectful and ability to handle culturally sensitive issues in a tactful way.

o Experience in working with NGOs and grassroots communities is a plus.
