Are you a qualified accountant with previous overseas financial experience This stimulating new role will provide the day-to-day management of our office in Freetown, Sierra Leone as our structure expands to support our partner, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), become one of the principal humanitarian actors in the country.

The British Red Cross (BRC) works in partnership with SLRCS to provide support to vulnerable people in Sierra Leone through community based health initiatives, and increased access to water and disaster risk reduction activities. Working as part of a global movement, we believe that the most effective way to reach people in crises is by building strong national Red Cross societies. We support SLRCS to deliver high quality programmes by providing technical and financial support to its work.

You will report to the BRC Country Manager for Sierra Leone and work closely with the SLRCS Director of Finance and the BRC International Finance team based in our London headquarters. Your role will be responsible for the financial and administrative systems, processes and procedures relating to the running of the BRC office in Freetown and to ensure compliance with BRC finance policies and procedures, guaranteeing controls are robust and yet flexible enough to meet the requirements of programmes. Also, to ensure SLRCS compliance with BRC and donor finance reporting requirements through the development of programme budgets, disbursement of cash transfers and verification of monthly finance reports.

We are looking for a qualified accountant with overseas experience ideally within the humanitarian context and proven grant management experience. We are especially interested in hearing from people with experience of working with national African organisations.

We are a volunteer-led humanitarian organisation that helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We enable vulnerable people at home and overseas to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help people recover and move on with their lives.
