NGO Jobs / UN Jobs Vacancy

Organization: War Child UK
Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Closing date: 08 Oct 2018

Providing educational support to children affected by conflict is at the heart of War Child’s mission. Along with child protection and livelihoods, education forms one of the principle pillars of our strategy and our theory of change. Our Education in Emergencies Advisor is the lead technical expert for the organisation, building capacity and programme quality across our programmes and partners, and representing War Child at the highest levels on relevant sector networks. The Education in Emergencies Advisor leads on high quality technical and advisory support to education programmes in Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Jordan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic.
The Advisor ensures the development of integrated education approaches alongside psychosocial, child protection, food security & livelihoods programming and leads the implementation of the Education in Emergencies Strategy. Our technical advisors lead in developing new approaches for our work, based on research and sector good practice, and ensure quality across proposal development processes.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience and skill in conducting rapid emergency assessments, high-level interagency coordination, capacity building and competency development, education programme monitoring and evaluation, including knowledge of relevant sector standards, and developing and supporting innovative approaches. This role is UK-based although with expected travel up to 30% of the time (subject to security considerations).

As part of the Programme Quality Team, the Education in Emergencies Advisor is responsible for setting strategic direction for War Child UK’s work in line with the global strategy and theory of change, and providing guidance and technical support to WCUK supported education programs in a wide range of conflict settings.
The Advisor provides hands-on support to WCUK country teams to develop, position and implement education programmes in conflict affected contexts from acute emergencies to protracted humanitarian crises, to longer term system building. The focus is on ensuring that teams and partners have the skills and capacity to meet technical quality standards in our education work, and that the organisation is able to achieve and evidence outcomes and impact in our work based on sound technical design. The role includes field work though both deployments and capacity building missions to WCUK Country Offices with about 30% travel per year.
The Advisor plays a crucial role in ensuring that War Chid is active and well represented on external coordination fora, and in initiatives to develop WCUK's leadership and profile globally. Representation on NGO, UN and donor networks is an important feature of the role, ensuring that War Child is effectively networked across the sector, and that our programmes learn from the experience of others.
The Advisor will also collaborate with teams to develop strategies and proposals for the country programmes, providing essential technical expertise in programme design and assuring that our interventions meet sector quality standards.
