Position Summary

Freedom House is seeking a Research Coordinator based in our New York office to manage the work of external analysts and advisers in support of Freedom House’s renowned global publications. The Research Coordinator will play a key role in all stages of the research and analysis process, from recruitment of researchers to review of draft submissions to analysis and presentation of findings. Ideal candidates will be highly organized self-starters with superb communications skills and proven project management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, screen, select, and train domestic and international consultant analysts and academic advisers as needed.
  • Prepare and send consultant contracts and materials to all analysts for Freedom House publications, collect and review scores and reports from analysts by designated deadlines.
  • Manage work of consultants throughout the various stages of the report writing and editing process to ensure timely submission of reports and scores according to Freedom House methodologies.
  • Supervise and support logistical preparations for annual ratings review meetings.
  • Contribute to content and data analysis.
  • Prepare, submit, and track consultant payments and travel reimbursements.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years’ work experience, including at least one year of project management experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in international affairs, political science, English, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Highly professional and effective English-language communications skills
  • Superb organizational skills, including the ability to keep track of many fast-moving parts and readily report on progress
  • Ability to apply superb attention to detail and consistently produce timely and error-free work
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, including proactive problem-solving and troubleshooting
  • Ability to collaborate with others and work as an effective team member
  • Familiarity with and strong interest in good governance, media freedom, and human rights issues
  • Foreign language skills desirable, especially French, Portuguese, and/or Arabic
