The Organisation

CBM is one of the leading organizations for international development cooperation in Germany. CBM is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a specialist organization and has had consultative status with the UN since 2002. It works in the most disadvantaged societies, irrespective of race, gender or religion.

CBM Germany is the largest and oldest of eleven Member Associations within the Christian Blind Mission Federation. All of them raise funds for the program work of the international organization and sensitize society to the concerns of people with disabilities.

The Role

The Executive Board of CBM Germany consists of two members, together with other directors they form the Management Committee, which is responsible for the implementation and further development of the CBM-Germany strategy.

The Director of Fundraising and Marketing is part of the Management Committee and reports to the board member responsible for fundraising and administration.

Key Responsibilities/ Tasks:

  • Overall responsibility for the strategic orientation of private fundraising in CBM Germany and the implementation of all associated activities with full budget responsibility.
  • Overall responsibility for the acquisition of funds from private donors, including major donors and legacies.
  • Overall responsibility for the development and continuous improvement of integrated fundraising strategies.
  • Management of communication channels for fundraising: direct mail, online, face-to-face, DR-TV, telephone marketing, one to one communication with donors.
  • Management of support functions for fundraising: donor database, design of donor journey, fundraising controlling.
  • Contribute to the overall communications strategy and brand development, ensure together with other communication functions strong and unified communication in line with brand.
  • Representation of the fundraising of CBM Germany in the international context of the CBM Federation.
  • Direct reporting line to the CEO of CBM Germany.
  • Member of the Management Committee, including co-responsibility for the implementation of the CBM-Germany strategy.
  • Leading around 50 people in at least 5 teams, current donor base approx. 500k people, 60 Mio Euro income from donations and legacies.

Experience and Skills

  • Ability to lead complex organizations.
  • At least 5 years of successful management of fundraising departments.
  • In-depth experience in NGO/NPO or in the public sector.
  • Very good language skills in English, good communication skills in German, other languages an advantage.
  • Familiar with the German donations market.
  • Interest in the mandate of the CBM “Development and Disability“.
  • Membership in a Christian Church (ACK).
  • Affinity with numbers, success orientation and structured, independent, entrepreneurial way of working.
  • High social competence and outstanding communication skills as well as a high degree of innovative ability and creativity.
