ODI is the UK’s leading independent think tank on international development and humanitarian issues.

The Risk and Resilience programme is one of ODI’s newest but most rapidly developing teams. One of the biggest and highest priority projects that Risk and Resilience works on is the Building Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Extremes and Disasters (BRACED) project. BRACED (2014-2019) is a multi-year £140million programme funded by the Department for International Development (DFID). It aims to build resilience of more than 5 million vulnerable people against climate extremes and disasters through the implementation of 15 large projects in Africa and Asia.

ODI leads the BRACED Knowledge Manager (KM) consortium. The consortium specialises in monitoring and evaluation, research, learning and uptake, with regional expertise and partnerships across Africa and Asia. The KM works with the 15 BRACED consortia (‘Implementing Partners’) and beyond to build evidence and learning on what works to strengthen resilience and to improve policies and programmes by getting that evidence into use. More can be found here:

BRACED has recently received an extension (until 30th September 2019), with an increased focus on taking what has been learnt from BRACED projects and using this learning to influence national and international policy and planning.

We are looking for a Project Officer to provide administrative, financial, project management and coordination support for the policy component within the Programme Management Unit (PMU) of the BRACED Knowledge Manager. This includes taking a leading role in KM engagement with external partners working on the policy component.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead on financial and contractual matters related to all sub-contracts for individuals and organisations that form part of the policy component within the KM;

  • Support the tracking of deliverables, milestones and invoicing with the consortium partners involved in the policy component;

  • Act as a central point of contact and coordination for the policy component within the KM, both within ODI and also for the KM consortium partners, the BRACED Fund Manager (led by KPMG), BRACED Implementing Partners and external stakeholders;

  • Attend all relevant meetings with DFID and the Fund Manager and keep written records of all meetings, sharing regular updates with the Project Manager;

  • Lead on internal knowledge-sharing processes and document ongoing implementation lessons for use in reporting and meta-learning processes related to the policy component. This includes compiling, writing and sharing monthly internal updates for the BRACED KM consortium;

    You will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (minimum)

  • Excellent written English and communication skills (essential)

  • A high level of numeracy and experience of budget monitoring (essential)

  • Understanding of and interest in climate change, disasters, and/or resilience, as well as wider international development issues (essential)

  • Ability to build excellent working relationships with remote teams (essential)

  • Knowledge and experience of working on major donor-funded international development programmes (essential)

  • Willingness to travel abroad (desirable)

  • French language skills (desirable)
