Job Description

The Finance Assistant is a responsible for essential accounting functions related to accounts payable, month-end closings, file maintenance and other administrative tasks. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, reporting directly to the Finance Manager.


  • Review and process all check requests for direct assistance, operating expenses and contracted interpreters in a timely manner; ensure proper account coding and obtain necessary approvals; distribute checks and file payment vouchers.
  • Assist in the month end closing process including preparation of journal entries.
  • Collect immigration funds; receive cash from clients, prepare receipts, and record in log.
  • Collect all other checks and cash that come into the office, log, and prepare weekly deposits.
  • Work with caseworkers to reconcile case file cash sheets.
  • Prepare, distribute and file Time & Effort reports.
  • Maintain accounting files and archive as needed.
  • Work with and serve as back up to Finance Assistant in Baltimore
  • Participate in other projects and assignments as needed
  • This position reports to the Finance Manager and does not manage others.


  • At least one year of experience administering accounting and financial control procedures.
  • Associates of Arts degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Previous non-profit agency experience preferred.
  • Solid computer skills: MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and other financial related software experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills- both verbal and written.
  • Well organized; high attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm about working in a multi-cultural setting.
