The Strength in Solidarity: Transforming CRS and Partners' Capacity to Serve the Poor project (SiS) contributes to the broader, shared CRS and partner goal of improved service to the poor. This project is housed in the Partnership and Capacity Strengthening unit. CRS' vision at the end of the eight-year initiative is that, as a result of highly effective and efficient accompaniment and capacity strengthening facilitated by CRS, its partners will be among the leading organizations meeting people's needs and transforming unjust structures.

SiS is a global program and works with country programs, regions, and headquarters departments, acknowledging that a significant number of CRS staff around the world are engaged in capacity strengthening and have lessons to share, skills to offer, and particular areas of expertise useful to partners. SiS also works to expand the number and depth of university partnerships, to draw on their expertise in organizational change, to explore management models for communication, collaboration, and coordination, and to serve as course developers, instructors, and mentors in the Institute for Capacity Strengthening (ICS).

In 2017, the SiS program held the first annual Perfecting Partnership, an eight-day intense and interactive event designed to hone the intermediate to advanced partnership and capacity strengthening knowledge, skills and attitudes of experienced CRS staff practitioners who want to take their expertise to the next level, and to build a vibrant and meaningful partnership and capacity strengthening community of practice. Perfecting Partnership participants were a diverse group of 37 staff from around the world. Participants were selected through a several months long competitive process with over 130 applicants. As part of that process, participants had to contribute extensively to a collaborative platform, as well as complete courses and obtain supervisor approval. Each participant brought many years of experience working with partners and doing capacity strengthening. The group represented 24 countries, all seven CRS regions, and three disciplines (program quality, management quality and finance), as well as a wide range of sectors.

Job Summary

During the period of January through July of 2018, the Event Coordinator, Perfecting Partnership Project serves as a member of the SiS team, providing in-person and virtual technical assistance for Perfecting Partnership 2018. S/he works in collaboration and coordination with staff across departments and divisions in headquarters and country programs to support the successful planning and implementation of Perfecting Partnership 2018. S/he assists with managing relations with the Villanova University Office of Conference Services and vendors that are contracted for Perfecting Partnership 2018.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Applications - Assist with tracking, documenting and reporting on applicants and their submissions, including translations on Yammer, Dropbox and other platforms.

  • Communications - Assist with promotion of Perfecting Partnership to internal and external audiences (e.g. photos, interviews, videos, social marketing) by liaising with Marketing and Communications, Villanova University communications, CRS Radnor Office, vendors, etc.

  • Community and Events - Contribute to the design, and responsible for organizing, coordinating participation and supporting events.

  • Curriculum - Assist with coordinating with consultants for copy edits, translations, etc.

  • Logistics

    o Assist with review of applications, interviews and coordinating two CRS summer interns (i.e. with Francophone, communications skills)

    o Liaise with Villanova University Office of Conference Services, including provision of reports, and liaise with vendors for catering, transportation, etc.

    o Assist with administrative support for communication with applicants concerning visas and travel arrangements, etc.

  • Materials - Assist with identifying materials, supplies and equipment needs and liaising with printing and procurement staff.

  • On-site-support

    o Assist on-site fulltime during the Perfecting Partnership event to coordinate CRS interns, to liaise with the Office of Conference Services, and to support the CRS team leads for liaison with the Villanova University Partnership Coordinator and student interns.

    o Assist participants by responding to issues concerning meals, transport, dormitory residence, supplies, meeting space, shopping, etc.

    o Provide administrative support to the Perfecting Partnership facilitation team.

  • Villanova University non-logistical

    o Liaise with Villanova University Office of Conference Services, on-site periodically before and during Perfecting Partnership.

    o Assist the Partnership and Capacity Strengthening Unit with liaising with the Villanova Partnership Coordinator and with the CRS Radnor office.

Key Working Relationships

Internal: Partnership and Capacity Strengthening Unit staff, SiS project team, PIQA administrative staff, Global Procurement staff, Marketing and Communications staff, Human Resources department, and others.

External: Villanova University in particular the Office of Conference Services, CRS Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Office in Randor, Pennsylvania, vendors and others

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience with planning and implementing complex projects or major events.
  • Bachelors or advanced degree.
  • Some familiarity with knowledge transfer to diverse audiences through participatory adult training, or other formal or non-formal methods preferred.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in working with Catholic Church, or other church's organizational structures and dynamics preferred.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to Villanova University and surrounding areas as required.
  • Demonstrated experience with project or event planning, design and implementation while managing all project delivery elements within time limits.
  • Demonstrated experience liaising with clients to identify their needs and to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting market research, gathering information and negotiating contracts with vendors.
  • Demonstrated experience with oversight of the activities of subordinate staff, or volunteers.
