Terre des Hommes ​Netherlands prevents child exploitation in developing countries, rescues children from exploitative situations and ensures that these children can continue their development in a safe environment. Terre des Hommes Netherlands in Asia focuses within the Child Exploitation Theme on: ​Sexual Exploitation of Children, the Worst Forms of Child Labour, Child Trafficking and Unsafe Migration, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and on Child Protection in Humanitarian Crisis. As part of its new strategic plan (2016-2020) Terre des Hommes Netherlands plans to increase its support to comprehensive programmes addressing Child Exploitation in Asia.

Nepal is home to 29 million people, with children younger than 15 years old making up more than 40% of the population. It includes ethnic and caste groups with distinct cultures and languages. More than one in three people in Nepal live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1 per day. Children are especially vulnerable to exploitations. Many children face violence, abuse and trafficking. In Nepal, adolescent girls identify sexual harassment in their communities and in schools as the biggest concern in their lives.

Objective of the position

To provide oversight to and ensure the design and effective and efficient implementation of the Terre des Hommes Netherlands project portfolio in Nepal.

Position within the organisation

The Project Coordinator for Nepal reports to the India Country Manager and operates in the context of the Terre des Hommes Netherlands Nepal Project.

Responsibilities and Results

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of all Terre des Hommes Netherlands projects in Nepal ensuring consistency with donor requirements, Terre des Hommes Netherlands strategies, commitments and goals. Represent Terre des Hommes Netherlands at relevant forums and functions in relation to the project.

  1. Effective and efficient Project implementation

  2. Oversee all Project activities and be the main contact point for the Terre des Hommes Netherlands and project partners in Nepal.

  3. Support and monitor project partners through regular communications and Project visits and ensure that Project and finance commitments as per partner agreements are being fulfilled in close coordination with Country Manager, Head of Region, Regional M&E Coordinator, and Regional Finance Coordinator

  4. Ensure activities comply with the policies and regulations of Terre des Hommes Netherlands and the donor.

  5. Responsible for overseeing the development and execution of project deliverables, lead project planning, budgeting, action plans and monitoring processes.

  6. Ensure that all scheduled partner and project reports such as progress reports are delivered timely and that they are of good quality, according to Terre des Hommes Netherlands standards, analyse the received information and compile the necessary reports. Define project progress, problems and solutions.

  7. Employs resourcefulness in project design, implementation and monitoring. Trouble shoots project problems. Identifies and implements creative solutions.

  8. Inform relevant persons/organisations/institutions on support given to project partners, project activities and results. Maintain the database and regularly update project documentation/ files for reference by all concerned.

  9. Support the marketing communication department with information and materials for marketing and communication. Project will attract publicity from national and international media.

Result: Improved quality and effective and efficient implementation of the TdHNL Nepal project portfolio, maximum results at beneficiary level and quality information to the donor.

  2. Involve pro-actively in fundraising activities, project design and development and proposal writing.

  3. Organise, assist and participate in relevant meetings and networks adding value to the Project.

  4. Represent Terre des Hommes Netherlands in all relevant Forums, including NGO forums, government liaison and other Child Protection fora.

  5. Keep representatives of foreign missions in country, government departments and relevant organisations informed about Terre des Hommes Netherlands work and achievements in Nepal, other Asian countries and globally.

Result: Improved quality of proposals, increased visibility of Terre des Hommes and increased knowledge on relevant themes.

  1. Capacity building of stakeholders at country and regional level in the relevant part of partner and Project portfolio

  2. Apply Terre des Hommes Netherlands tools in organisational assessment, monitoring and evaluation, and capacity building.

  3. Identify together with project partners areas for further improvement on management and/ or Project quality of project partners and define frameworks, procedures and indicators oriented towards improved organisational- and project management.

  4. Guide project partners, give capacity building training and give direction so that they improve on quality of work, efficiency, effectiveness of the desired outputs and sustainability of results.

  5. Safeguard project quality by maintaining an overview of supported projects and evaluating the quality of work and results. Ensure that project partners follow the terms and conditions of the signed agreements; facilitate them to keep track of key factors in project management cycle, implementation and monitoring of results.

Result: Improved quality of projects and assistance to beneficiaries, efficiency, effectiveness of the desired outputs and sustainability of results.

Knowledge and skills:

  • High level vocational or academic (university) education at bachelor level (NL: HBO/WO, Bachelor)

  • High level applied or academic thought and working ability

  • Knowledge of procedures and guidelines relating to the work environment and relevant networks

  • Knowledge in the field of project management

  • Knowledge of and insight in the target group and developments in society

  • Skills in writing concrete project work plans and performs these tasks independently/seeks efficient assistance required to complete this task.
