Main purpose of the position

The Research Assistant, with strong background on socio-economic research, will work for support the project on “Conservation of pollinator diversity for enhanced climate change resilience” within the Biodiversity and Integrated Gene Management Program. This project shall comprehensively introduce the Farming with Alternative Pollinators (FAP) approach in the MENA-region.

The Research Assistant’s main role is to support the Project Coordinator with the day-to-day project management activities and with specific research activities.


The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is an international autonomous, non-profit, research organization supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

ICARDA’s mission is to reduce poverty, enhance food, water and nutritional security, as well as environmental health in the face of global challenges including climate change. We do this through innovative science, strategic partnerships, linking research to development and capacity development that take into account gender equality and the role of youth in transforming the dry areas. ICARDA works in partnership with governments, universities, civil society, national agricultural research organization, other CGIAR research Centers, and the private sector. Main responsibilities

The Research Assistant will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Support the coordination of the project activities and of an interdisciplinary team;
  • Follow up on the weekly calendar of deliverables and on interdisciplinary field reports before the weekly staff meeting.
  • Transfer data from field books to Excel files for recording and analysis.
  • Support the project coordinator with quantitative and qualitative research concerning management of fields, landscapes and pollinators and knowledge of different target groups.
  • Prepare the excel files on questionnaires, other assessments (e.g. national assessment on regions with pollinator deficits or assessments for the stewardship).
  • Facilitate meetings between the project coordinator and different Moroccan stakeholders, including translation between English, French and Arabic
  • Maintain and regularly update the equipment inventory and contacts’ list

· Contribute to organization and running trainings and workshops.

· Translate all brochures, posters, manuals etc. from English into French and Arabic

Education, qualifications and experience

· Master in Socio-economic or agricultural rural development, or related fields. A BSc with additional years of experience is acceptable.

· Minimum three years of professional experience involving research and project coordination.

· Proven experience in quantitative and qualitative research.

· Excellent organizational skills and efficiency in implementation and follow-up

· Proficiency in MS Excel.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

· Good written and oral communication skills in French and Arabic.

· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams.

· Good understanding of administrative processes.

· Driving license.
