Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with a charity that has global reach, supporting its Partners around the world. Interning within our small team will give you the opportunity to get involved in many aspects of HART and make a significant contribution to HART’s work.


Place of Work: Kingsbury, London

Reports to: Communications and Fundraising Executive

Timeframe: Minimum three months

Hours: Weekdays, 9:30am to 5:30pm – tbd

Start date: 17th July 2017

Salary: This is an unpaid role, but we will cover reasonable travel expenses and lunch up to £5 per day.

We are a small and lively organisation and you will quickly become an essential part of our friendly team, involved in all areas of discussion and supporting the many areas of our work. We want you to enjoy working with us and gain valuable skills and experience during your time as an intern. If there are other areas that you are interested in which are not specified here then we would be keen to help you get this experience.


· Writing articles, updates and research pieces for HART’s news and blogs, and other publications;

· Researching relevant issues affecting the communities with which HART works, to inform our advocacy, campaigns and communications;

· Monitoring the political situation in countries where we work, and preparing internal and external briefings;

· Designing and coordinating campaigns, events, and other advocacy activities;

· Engaging with HART’s Parliamentary work, including preparing briefings and attending debates;

· Supporting on the development of core communications, including printed newsletters, e-newsletters, the Annual Review, the HART website, and social media;

· Supporting on fundraising activities including researching grants and foundations;

· Building relationships with other NGOs, schools, universities, community organisations and the media;

· Assisting on the HART Ambassador Programme;

· Managing the HART prize for Human Rights (under the Advocacy officer’s supervision)


· Bachelor’s or Masters degree in a relevant field.


· Strong writing skills Desire to gain office experience in a small charity

· Very good attention to detail

· Ability to work with a team and independently

· Good knowledge of MS Excel and Word, and the ability to (or learn to) use Salesforce database software

· Proactive can do attitude and ability to take initiative

· Good organisational skills

· Experience in organising events


· Knowledge and/or experience in social media or SEO


· An interest in NGO/charity work/human rights work

· Understanding of HART’s vision, mission, and a commitment to its objectives and values.
