Summary of Position

Aktis is offering a competitive position for suitably qualified and dynamic candidates with the HMG Frameworks and Client/Counterpart Engagement Team (CET) as a Business Development Manager.
The Client Engagement Team, based in London, operates across Aktis’ regional offices to support business development and client engagement, to pursue new opportunities and expand Aktis’ portfolio in conflict and security work in FCAS. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for assisting with the management of the CET team and providing support to activities such as drafting and preparing proposals. The Business Development Manager will also be responsible for leading in client engagement, including liaising and building relationships with partners, associates, and competitors. This will involve analysing the business landscape to identify and pursue new opportunities in existing and new markets to help Aktis meet its targets for growth. Travels to conflict affected states will be required.

Summary of Responsibilities

The Business Development Manager will largely be responsible for leading business development in the markets Aktis is already operating, as well as in regions the company is seeking to break into. Other tasks include but are not limited to:

Management of the CET:

 Manage the CET core activities and provide direction to the team;
 Oversee the immediate company pipeline, business analysis of the company’s Practices and regional teams, and monitor progress towards revenue targets.
 Manage the bid process and look to further develop Aktis’ business development systems.
Upstream client engagement and key account management:
 Meeting with donors, clients, partners and competitors in existing markets as well as in new markets to gather information about the future of the sector, identify upcoming opportunities, and help with positioning;
 Carrying out donor research, tracking and monitoring donor trends, priorities, funding and pipelines/upcoming opportunities;
 Offer guidance to, and liaise with, Practices and country teams in the engagement of clients, partners, and competitors;
 Support the implementation of Aktis’ brand and marketing strategy for 2017.
Supporting Aktis Strategy at large, including our regional offices:
 Prepare grants, bids and concept notes and/or provide support to teams for donors such as DFID, CSSF and the EU;
 Support the creation of guidance/training materials to help country teams and practices further develop their BD strategies and meet revenue goals;
 Assist with the management of Aktis projects and programmes when necessary, including reporting to donors and maintaining internal management systems.

Requirements

It is essential that applicants hold the following qualifications:

 4+ years’ business development and/or client engagement experience in an international setting;
 An understanding of UK, US, EU and other donor policies and systems, such as procurement and programming methods and requirements;
 Substantial experience producing successful bids, grants and concept notes for donors such as DFID, FCO, USAID and the EU;
 A network of contacts and organisations in international development, favourably in the Middle East, Africa and Europe;
 Excellent interpersonal skills;
 Experience of upstream engagement with clients;
 Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel;
 Outstanding English writing skills (additional language skills such as French and Arabic will be regarded as an advantage);
 Ability to work to tight deadlines and work on multiple on-going projects at once;
 Be available to travel to fragile and conflict affected states, be it as part of project delivery or business development.
