Shop teams are the heart of our operation and 22,000 volunteers donate their diverse skills to maximise the income from the thousands of donations we receive every day. Oxfam operates a volunteering model, in which volunteers are empowered to take over most of the tasks within the shop, including running the shop in the manager’s absence.

Being our Safeguarding Advisor is about helping to protect the people we work with in our shops. You will understand that charity workers hold a privileged position of trust, and with that comes the responsibility to respect the dignity of those we support. Unfortunately, there are occasions when this privileged position can be abused. As sexual exploitation and abuse can never by justified, Oxfam GB’s unique, dedicated Safeguarding Team, pioneers work to address this issue.

What will I be doing?

As the Trading Safeguarding Advisor you will have responsibility for helping managers to ensure that staff and volunteers are both aware of, and adhere to, our Child Protection, Vulnerable Adults and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse polices. This includes being the key point of contact in the division for Safeguarding expertise and investigating allegations of sexual abuse made against Oxfam staff and other representatives. You will also work closely with staff and volunteers to raise awareness through training initiatives, as well as providing advice, guidance and support as appropriate.

What background do I need?

We are looking for someone who is currently in a Safeguarding or similar role and can demonstrate solid experience in providing advice, support and guidance to a wide range of people. It is important that you understand and care deeply about safeguarding and tackling sexual exploitation and abuse (sexual violence) and are strongly motivated to do this work. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate where they have made a difference in this area in a previous role.

Due to the nature of this role, please note that the successful candidate will be subject to a Basic DBS check.
