As a Research and Insights Manager you will be part of the Migration Program working on displaced people, migration, human trafficking and modern slavery issues. You will manage research, write reports and produce insights for projects globally. You will be an experienced researcher with high quality technical capacities while also possessing strong donor/client engagement skills. You can be based anywhere in the world and must be fluent in English.

This role demands someone who is smart, intrinsically motivated, worldly and interested in hard challenges. Seefar* has a track record for delivering research projects in East Africa, West Africa, North Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia on migration and human trafficking issues. Our research team is growing and these roles will help manage that growth.

We are looking for someone with:

  • extensive technical research skills in quantitative methods including significance testing, data visualization with Tableau and banner tables.
  • exceptional English writing skills
  • excellent donor/client engagement skills
  • preferably with thematic expertise in migration and/or human trafficking and modern slavery
  • effective prioritisation skills and you are highly productive
  • outstanding attention to detail.

The following are the primary responsibilities of the role, with estimated allocations of time and attention.

Deliver: Project and Mission Implementation

Approximately 70% of your time and attention:

  • Support and guide the Migration Program team to advance our mission and deliver projects.
  • Designing mixed methods research projects.
  • Liaising with donors and clients to ensure alignment.
  • Ensuring field research is conducted to acceptable quality standards and supervising or conducting training where required.
  • Conducting analysis of mixed methods research outputs and producing high quality reports and presentations.
  • Analysing, visualising and presenting data using software.
  • Ensure donors needs are met and expectations exceeded where possible.
  • Provide regional inputs to programs relating to migration, displaced people, human trafficking and modern slavery.
  • Managing project teams and research team personnel.
  • Other tasks as required.

Develop: Capabilities and Program Portfolio

Approximately 20% of your time and attention:

  • Supporting the Program to develop the capabilities and processes of the Research Team. For example, this would include mentoring and leading recruitment.
  • Strengthen the Enterprise’s reputation and profile in migration research.
  • Conducting fundraising for Seefar. Build and maintain contacts and networks with potential supporters. This includes identifying new opportunities and creating new projects, as well as supporting existing fundraising activity.

Direct: Global Management

  • Represent and demonstrate the Enterprise’s values.

Approximately 10% of your time and attention:

  • Cooperate with other areas of the Migration Program and Enterprise, including to communicate substantive and administrative information that supports corporate management overall. For example, this would include adhering to financial and HR procedures.

An Excellent Candidate

To excel in this role, you will start with extensive experience working as a researcher, preferably on migration, human trafficking or modern slavery, but with excellent quantitative skills. You have strong statistical analysis, software and data visualisation skills. Your technical research and writing skills are excellent and you have the ability to lead research projects and produce high quality products. Your excellent donor/client management skills allow you to scope projects in alignment with donor needs and produce outputs that meet expectations. You are highly organised, have the ability to prioritise and are highly productive. You have a track record of supervising others effectively and enjoy mentoring and developing others. You will be motivated by an Enterprise performance framework focused on social impact.
