Conditions :

Swiss salaried contract 2’950 CHF (~2’550 €) < > 4'300 CHF (~3’700 €) net /month according to experience x 13, Holidays: 25 days per year. Local accommodation and transportation, Health insurance, accident and medical repatriation insurance, return flight.

Context: In 2015, 850 000 refugees and migrants arrived by sea to the Greek islands and up to November 2016 an additional 171 785 refugees entered Greece. The vast majority come from the world’s top ten refugee-producing countries, primarily from Syria 47%, Afghanistan 24% and Iraq 15%. The percentage of women and children arriving increased, with 58% in 2016 compared to 47% in 2015. Following the closure of borders throughout the Balkans (8 March 2016) and the implementation of the EU-Turkey Agreement (20 March), refugees and migrants arriving in Greece could not continue on their journey towards Western Europe and more than 47 000 refugees are currently stranded in Greece.

In response to this crisis, Tdh through an ECHO funded project seeks to deliver integrated services and support to children in Epirus region through provisions of non-formal education for refugee children, youth and adults and targeted child protection services to the most vulnerable children and caregivers, including safe shelter. One of the key priorities for Tdh is to help children, youth, their caregivers and other adults living in the sites to address their psychosocial needs, and support caregivers in fulfilling their roles of caring, protecting, educating and guiding their children while strengthening the protection response mechanism, in particular through providing child protection case management services.

More recently, Tdh will start providing Psychosocial support activities in 3 sites in the region, with the aim of improving the wellbeing, strengthen the resilience of refugee children and their families through direct implementation of activities (Child Friendly Spaces and Mother & Baby areas, legal counselling and provision of psychosocial activities for children, youth, parents-caregivers and targeted camps communities).

Main responsibilities :

Program support

  • With the support of the Project Manager, plan, implement and monitor the education program in Ioannina within the planned time frame and in line with Tdh operational strategy in Greece;
  • Support the development and lead on the implementation of non-formal education activities, including training, mentoring and coaching of the NFE team;
  • Ensure quality of the education program, set qualitative indicators and their follow up. Put in place corrective measures to ensure the program meets qualitative requirements;
  • Plan and implement the component related to supporting formal education in Epirus region according to discussions already on going and conditions set by the MoE;
  • Following changes in context, create additional or improve existing learning spaces in camp and urban setting;
  • Work with parents and communities and disseminate information about education issues and available services.

Project Management

  • To ensure that activities are appropriately planed, monitored and evaluated and proposes, when deemed necessary, amendments to the education strategy;
  • To support the PM in budget revisions, forecast and follow up related to the Education activities;
  • To prepare timely purchase requests in line with the project needs;
  • To identify logistic and admin support needs related to the project and communicate these to the relevant log/admin department.

HR management

  • Organize team meetings and provide weekly program update and staff planning;
  • Evaluate the staff under his/her direct responsibility on a regular basis and pass on the evaluations and recommendations to the Project manager;
  • Follow up staff attendances, leaves and provide monthly attendance sheets to her/his manager to facilitate payroll process;
  • Ensure regular feedback to the staff under her/his responsibility and appraisal process or disciplinary measures when needed;
  • Act as the main contact person for field focal points of Tdh implementing partners.

Project Strategy, reporting and planning

  • Ensure regular communication with the Project Manager about updates, achievements and challenges through meetings, reports and ad hoc communication upon re-quest and needs;
  • Ensure donor and internal reporting;
  • Participate in designing strategies and objectives for improved support to beneficiaries and contribute actively in its monitoring, evaluation and revision.

Coordination and representation

  • Coordinate with other Tdh sectors to ensure implementation of standardized activities and with other departments (programme and support) of Tdh in Greece as necessary;
  • Represent Tdh project in the education working group in Ioannina and in Thessaloniki for northern Greece updates when required;
  • Develop a network to facilitate the project acceptance and stakeholder’s contribution and ownership;
  • Participates in education assessments in its geographical zone of intervention or outside;
  • Increases Tdh visibility in terms of CP and education in Greece.

Other

  • Agree to comply with Tdh Code of Conduct and ensures Child Safeguarding stand-ards are upheld;
  • Adhere to and ensure the team under her/his responsibility follows Tdh administrative and logistical regulations and procedures.

Specificities of the position in Greece:

  • Constant context evolutions (locations of intervention, number of beneficiaries…);
  • Recruitment and training of local staff;
  • Management of partnerships.

Profile :

  • University degree in Education or other relevant subject
  • Proven track record and experience in education in emergencies
  • At least 2 years experience in a similar position in the field
  • Project management experience (planning, implementation upon objectives, activities monitoring and evaluation, staff development and training skills)
  • Knowledge of international humanitarian response and development work
  • Excellent written and spoken English (French is not required)
  • Advanced IT skills
  • Excellent writing, reporting and communication skills
  • Ability to work in an inter cultural environment
  • Flexible, responsive, motivated, good communicator
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Knowledge of Greek, Arabic or Farsi is an asset
